Care Council for Wales promises 'step change' for social care profession in 2012
Rhian Huws Williams, the chief executive of the Care Council for Wales (CCW), has made achieving a higher level of professionalism in the social care sector in Wales top of her New Year's resolutions list.
In an article in the Guardian (January 3), Ms Williams promised: "The Care Council will play a leading role in delivering a new professionalism that will mark a step-change for the profession in Wales."
She promises the Care Council, which was set up 10 years ago to monitor and improve standards in the social care sector in Wales, will adopt a "fresh approach to the Care Council's regulation and development work."
She says CCW will work closely with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) to develop a new model of regulation with a focus of improving standards and building the public's trust in the sector.
One of the key ways CCW plans to do this is to gather evidence and identify what makes a high-quality manager - and to use these characteristics to share best practice and work on improving care.
It is also hoped that the Care Council and CSSIW will be able to work together to provide a single point of contact for members of the public seeking information about social care provision and standards.
